Chills, Shivers, and Tears

Do you have a song that literally stirs your soul, no matter how many times you have heard it? How about every time you hear it? Many years ago, approximately 25 years ago, my brother and his family invited Louie and I, my mom, and sisters, to go to an Imperials concert with them. It probably was the very first concert I went to in my entire life! I had never heard of the Imperials before, and boy, were we in for a treat! The guys in the photo below were the very first group of the Imperials that I had ever seen. I know there were guys before them, and if you don't know it, the Imperials are still going today, although I never hear that they have been on tours near me. Maybe they don't tour. I don't know. What I do know, is that I loved this group, and I could go downstairs right now, and dig out several of their LP albums. I still have them all, and I still have a turntable to play them on, but sadly, with the advancement of technology, my turntable rarely gets used, so now, I enjoy them via youtube, or download them from itunes. This man, Russ Taff, sang a song that stirred my soul. Whenever I hear this song, I feel my throat tightening up, as it does when I get over emotional, chills take over my body, and I fight to catch my tears. Praise the Lord, is the name of the song.

This is what Russ looks like now. You can still see him on certain dates, following the Gaither Vocal Band, as years later, he sang with them too, but he also has his own schedule. I know there are other people who have sang that song since, but in my heart, nobody does it better than Russ. Thank you Russ! Here's a video of the song, with Russ Taff singing it, the way I remember it from years ago, and the way it stirs my soul.

Here is Russ as he sings it today.

This is The Imperials today. I'll be checking them out too!

I also just discovered Russ' wife Tori's blog, babybloomr. Go check it out!

I'm so glad there is music. It is my favorite kind of praise.
What song stirs your soul?

  1. For me, Alleluia No. 1 from the Episcopal hymnal lifts my heart and brings tears to my eyes everytime I sing it (or hear it sung.) The descant alone gives me goosebumps.

  2. Goodness Michelle, I have one that stirs my soul about every three or four months (whenever I am going through another valley or desert, ya know?). For now, I guess it would be the song 'Everlasting', but I don't know who sings it. Now you have me wondering...time for me to head over to hear it on Godtube...

Your blog is just lovely, by the way!
