Hexagon Progress

Last week when I stopped sewing on my hexagon quilt top, this was how far I was in my progress. At this point, I had 14 rows finished. This table I have it laying on is 30" wide by 60" long.
Today, a few girls came over and I worked on it again. I measured it, not including the points that would be cut off adding the border, and it measures roughly 51" wide, by 53" long. (Long, for you looking at the picture is left to right on the picture. Wide, is bottom to top of the picture).
Now, it has 27 rows sews together. I have 4 more rows ready to sew together, and to add to the quilt top, then I will see if I think the main quilt body is long enough. I plan on adding a 2 or 3 inch border, then I am thinking of making some more rows (1/2 hexagon) and adding another border using the half hexagon, only going vertically, instead of horizontally. I am envisioning yet another border, only wider, like maybe 5 inches, then doing a scrappy binding. These plans are not set in stone, but just what I have in my head.
I have no idea, right now what colors I will use for the borders. I will raid my stash and see what I have that I think will look nice, and then I will quilt it, using a sheet for the back, my standard in thrifty quilt backing. When I finally do quilt it, it will be the first time in over 14 months that I will use my quilting frame and Juki machine. Hopefully, once I get through this hurdle, I can breathe easy again.

  2. Michelle, the quilt is coming along beautifully. I can't wait to see it all finished. I know you've had problems with the Juki and are apprehensive....I pray that all is well with you and the equipment. We have a Mighty God who takes care of small as well as large problems! Like you bright background!! Cheerful on a dreary winter's day!

  4. Looks wonderful! I started mine but only have a few rows! I love how you did the light and dark fabrics, it looks really great!

I love using sheets for backings! Since I don't live anywhere close to a quilt shop and it would be expensive to order online and pay shipping, so I usually just run to Walmart and buy a new one if I can't find any at the thrift store! I stopped by there today (thrift store) and found two sheets for $1 each and a couple of men's cotton shirts that I am going to cut up for the fabric!
