First Section of Half Square Triangle Quilt

I spent most of today and this evening cutting, ironing and sewing while I did the laundry. I finished making my 8 half square triangles out of each 24 different light/dark color combinations before I started laying out the HST's to make a design, I had 192 HSTs. I laid them out in the order of a picture I found on the internet. Here is ONE section. This section has 64 HST in it, and is roughly 30 1/4" square all sewn together. Of my 192 HST, I will get three sections. It's kind of neat to sit here and look at the picture, because before, all I could see what a star in the center, but now, I can see 5 different stars. Here is section TWO laid out, but not sewn together yet (now picked up and labeled to sew).
And here is section THREE laid out (now, picked up and labeled to sew). I have 24 more color combination sandwiches all penciled on, pinned, and ready to sew to make 192 more HST, then when they are ironed and the little dog ears are clipped off, I can start all over again laying them out. I am going to make the quilt two sections wide, by three sections long. I haven't decided what I will use for a border yet, and in addition, if I will make another 2 block border. I probably will, as I really liked that last time, and I have lots of fabric left over.
Sew, that's what I've been up to. What have you been up to?

  4. You are really going to town on this HST creation. I can understand where it takes a period of time to do the layout...you want to make sure none of the same color/pattern are touching.

I do my HST similar to this method - only using a paper pattern instead of drawing on the fabric...works out great for me.

    Have a wonderful weekend!
