Today was Louie’s birthday. We went junkin’ with my brother and sisterinlaw, Jack and Polly, and had lunch at Granite City. Yum! I had the
Grilled Chicken and Bruschetta Salad
(Pictured on the menu bar I stole borrowed.)
Toasted Caesar bruschetta surrounds a mix of greens and romaine tossed in balsamic vinaigrette with grilled chicken breast, olives, and crumbled bleu cheese. Finished with marinated bruschetta, tomatoes, onions, and Parmesan cheese.
I had them leave off the bleu cheese. It tasted absolutely wonderful, but the oil on the salad, and the oil and butter on the bruschetta sent me ‘running’ to the facilities within 30 minutes. (Whew! That was close!) I guess I’m not used to ‘oil’ and I won’t have that again! It sure tasted good going down though!
Among my bag of treasures today, I found an almost new, vintage electric can opener. Fun!
Some movies… The Lake House, and Identity.
An unopened DVD of Ernie Haase and Signature Sound and Catch Me If You Can.
A few weeks ago, at Goodwill in Marion, I spotted boxes, and boxes of prewound bobbins. I didn’t buy any, because I did not know if they were the right size. They were a ‘G’ bobbin, which I knew was not my ‘M’ or my ‘L’ bobbin I use, but I was still curious. I took a couple of my bobbins with me today, and they looked like they would work…..
…so I bought a BUNCH! There are 72 bobbins in each box…perfect for piecing…
…except when I put one in my sewing machine, it was too big. I ripped off the cardboard circles on the sides, and it fit better, but still a bit too tight, so I pulled a few yards of thread off, and now they work GREAT!
So what is this, you say? It’s not tape. It’s not a skinny roll of toilet paper…..
It’s a roll of 2 1/2” white fabric on a roll! $1.99. I can either use it for binding, or use it to cut jelly roll strips! Who’d a thunk? Fabric on a roll! What will they think of next?
I stumbled onto this child’s Singer Sewhandy Model 20 sewing machine today. Wow….I’ve never seen one of these while junkin’! It is tiny!
Last, but certainly not least…I found a quilt. A quilt for $4.38. Someone made it, and tied it. Someone donated it. What a shame. Not for me! I am going to practice my free motion quilting on it, off the frame…just sitting down at my Juki sewing machine, with a meandering pattern. How can I go wrong for $4.38?
See where they tied the quilt?
Does anybody want to guess how many bobbins are in the jar? The jar is about 12” tall.
It was a good day. I love finding treasures.
Have a great July 4th, everyone, and if you get an extra long weekend, have fun and be careful if traveling.
Be blessed!
Michelle

You Always find the best treasures!! Happy fourth of July!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great day! Ugh for oily chicken bruschetta!!! (We make that all the time---the boys LOVE IT!!!...but without tons of grease!). I didn't think that I'd be a fan of blue cheese, but GC has awesome potato chips and I think they have blue cheese crumbles...they were delish!
ReplyDeleteWow, bargains seem to come your way...plus finding these new items (the bobbins and the fabric in a roll...not your normal run of the mill "junkin" items.

ReplyDeleteAnytime I eat really rich food - like crab legs with lots of melted butter - I can bet I'll need a bathroom within an hour. I'm not sure what causes that! Love your finds - especially that quilt. :) blessings, marlene
