Yesterday, while Louie and I were out junkin’ we found, and purchased four more machines for The Sewing Machine Project. One of them being this Brother XL-2010.
It was the lowest priced machine we found, and though I don’t usually like to purchase Brother machines, unless they are from the ‘50’s or ‘60’s era, I couldn’t pass this one up, as I always figure if it doesn’t work out, the price is worth the foot controller, the bobbin holder, light bulb, and various other parts that can be re-used on other machines.
This one, although missing it’s extension table/accessory tray, is a pretty nice basic machine. Yes, there are plastic gears, but they appear to be in good shape, and it took very little to get this one ready to pass on.
It made some nice stitches, once I changed the needle and adjusted the tension a little. The motor is strong and it should make someone a nice machine.
I even found a free pdf manual for this machine. It can be found here:

That was good Michelle that it didn't take a lot of "elbow grease" to get it up and running!! Great finds too for four of them this past weekend!

Someone is sure to get some use out of it. Sometimes these "cheap" machines surprise you and just keep going and going.
ReplyDeleteGreat find! It looks like it makes some nice stitches and will be perfect for someone!
ReplyDeleteAnother machine that will bless someone's life! What a wonderful service you are doing!!
ReplyDeleteHi! I was wondering if you would share the link to the free manual you found? Thanks!

ReplyDeleteI just picked up one of these machines for $10 at the Goodwill. If it works, I plan to give it to a friend. I was hoping to find a "better" machine and hope this one will sew just fine. Do you know how old the machine is? Thanks:
ReplyDeleteThank-you for this very important info as I am about to win this very machine in an online auction, also missing it's table and manual.

ReplyDeleteI tried to clean the bobbin area of my Brother XL 2010 according to the manual but when I put it back together the top thread and the bobbin thread won't interlock (i.e., no stitches). Any idea where I went wrong?

ReplyDeletePlease start over and carefully check upper threading, then make sure bobbin is inserted correctly and thread is through tension spring on bobbin holder. Also make sure thread is inserted in needle correctly. If you removed the needle, make sure you inserted it correctly.
