Thrifty Show and Tell

Last Saturday, Louie and I went 'junkin'. It was supposed to be a rainy day, so we took the van, instead of the Goldwing, like we had planned, and we went 'junkin' before we went to see the movie 'Fireproof'...(let me just say the movie was AWESOME! It touched our hearts, and my sweet husband was not the only person wiping tears and blowing his nose during this movie!) The weather, well, it turned out to be 80*, calm, sunny, and beautiful, but that's ok. Sunday was supposed to be the beautiful day, and it was what they predicted for Saturday, chance of rain, cloudy, and cool. I think the weather people got confused, but all turned out just fine.

On one of our stops, I found this cookie jar purse. I love pink, I love the looks of this cookie jar, and even though I have no clue where it will end up, it was mine. $5.38 It measure 10" tall, roughly 8.5" long, and 5.5" wide. Here's one side. Profile.
The other side. No brand name. Probably nothing special, just cute, but just HAD to have it. (Louie is a very patient, understanding person, have I ever told you that? Truth is, I could resist tempation a little easier if he wasn't there encouraging me by saying, 'buy it, buy it'. The other truth is, there are SOME things I want him to encourage me to buy, and he does NOT. (sigh) However, I DO survive without some things, and whatever I wanted is soon forgotten.)The other thing I found at the same store was this glass basket vase. No markings, no stickers, except the price I paid, $10.38. Does anyone know anything about this basket? It is quite heavy. It measures roughly 11.5" tall, 7.5" across the scallopped opening, and the round base measures 3.75" across. Not sure exactly where this will go either, but it called my name. What's a girl to do? Pretend not to hear? I think not!The other treasure I found was this Willow Tree figurine called 'Together'. I think we paid 'near' retail for it, but Louie wanted me to have it, and the money went to a good cause(Goodwill), so we bought this too. ($12.38). I have a few other Willow Tree figurines. My sissypoo Nancy has given me most of them, but I have managed to find a few here and there at other thrift stores for little money at all, so I didn't feel bad paying what I did for this one. It reminds me of my sweet Louie, and how much he loves me, and he WAS the one who wanted me to have it.Thanks for looking at my thrifty finds.
Dare to Be Happy
Dare to be happy - don't shy away,
Reach out and capture the joy of today!
Life is for living! Give it a try,
Open your heart to that sun in the sky.
Dare to be loving, and trusting and true,
Treasure the hours with those dear to you.
Dare to be kind - it's more fun than you know,
Give joy to others, and watch your own grow.
Dare to admit all your blessings, and then,
Every day count them all over again.
Dare to be happy, don't be afraid -
This is the day which the Lord hath made!

  2. You certainly made some excellent "finds". The purse cookie jar is most unusual.

Your honey is quite the nice man to encourage you on these purchases. He knows you won't buy things the budget will not allow.

Have a great weekend - full of God's love.

  4. What great finds, the cookie jar purse is great I've never seen anything like it before so thanks for sharing. It's found a great new home. The vase even looks heavy. I've seen much smaller versions of it but don't even remember where. And what can I say about the Willow Tree it's great. I only have 2 but I do love them both so.
