Daycation Days and Visitors

I’m not going to write much…just put up a lot of pictures. We had visitors from Thursday morning until mid morning on Sunday. Those days with our visitors were wonderful. We visited a lot of things right here in our own town and surrounding communities. Why is it that we don’t visit what is right under our noses, but travel to far away places to see God’s beauty?

We visited the Hurstville Interpretive Center, Hurstville Lime Kilns, Bellevue State Park and Mississippi River, and we ate out ALOT! We ate at Flapjack’s (THREE TIMES) in Maquoketa, the Maidrite in Bellevue, Geno’s in Preston, Village Inn in Davenport, and Hale Tap in Hale Village.  It was the best time though, and I am thankful for the time spent with good friends.(Click on photos to enlarge.)

After we ate, we crossed the bridge in Hale and drove just a few miles to Jungletown. Here is what what remains of the little ‘General Store’ along the Wapsi river in ‘Jungletown’.P1040797P1040805

When I was a little girl, there was a metal bread sign push plate attached to the screen door. (The building had probably been closed for decades before I was even born.) I always thought it would be so neat to have the bread sign (and the door!) I wonder where it went, or who has it now.  I don’t remember exactly what it looked  like, but it looked something like this.

It was fun looking at some of the local ‘attractions’, but spending time with friends you love is the just the BEST.

I know you four had a great time during these few days.

Was the mode of transportation in the car or on the bike?

I suppose back to work to rest up now.

  3. Love your pictures.

What is the Hurtsville Interpretive Center? We've been to the kilns as they have always fascinated me but didn't know there was a center.

And what town is Hale Tap in? The sandwich looks great.

btw - I started the Shack, but started part way through to miss all the stuff int eh beginning. I think I'll finish it tonight and now may go back and read the beginning. Go ahead and say it, I am so messed up! :)

  4. Sounds like a great time with friends, and I loved your pictures. What a tenderloin. We have friends coming in October and staying for a week. We haven't seen them in several years and plan on doing similar things to your visit, enjoying the local sites and tastes.
