Another Quilt For My Sweetie….

Gee, I guess when I get going, it’s hard to stop me, huh? I loved Louie’s quilt I made last week, but I had other ideas in mind for another one, and I wanted to have more of his billiard fabric visible, with more of HIS colors, which are BLACK and Royal Blue. I, of course, love the black and white, so here we go again. He doesn’t mind at all that he is getting another quilt!

I wanted to do the split rail pattern, but I didn’t want to lay out the blocks to look like stairs steps, or swastikas (NO, no, no, no, no…….) I played around until I found something acceptable to me, then I just kept repeating the pattern, focusing on the black polka dot fabric (Left, bottom, right, top….repeat).001 002                                        Here is the main body of the quilt, sewn together.003                                                       Louie and I decided I would use the black/blue flame fabric for the first border, but I knew if I did that, I wouldn’t have enough of the fabric left over to do more strips to make the piano key border that I had in my head to do (I hardly EVER use a pattern…with me, it’s ‘create as I go’). I bought the fabric about three years ago for a quilt project that never happened, so I had it in my stash. (Yay stash!!!)006                                I knew I got this fabric at Walmart, so my sweetie went fabric shopping for me. He brought me back four more yards of it. THANK YOU WALMART for stocking the old stuff!                 007                                        Here it is with the first border….  008                                        …and here, I have the white/black fabric folded to the approximate size of the next border, and my strips just laying there so I could see what it would look like. Louie approved, so I do believe this is how it will look. I probably will bind it in the black/blue flame fabric as well.        009                                        It was a good day sewing today. My friend Patty came over and she got a lot accomplished as well, although I didn’t get any pictures taken of her project. Now I am raring to go, and I can’t wait to finish this one as well.

I hope you all have a great week and a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Be blessed,                                                     Michelle

smiley thanksgiving

  5. I love the quilt -and the border is just great! I find myself using those more and more - I just love the play of the fabrics just one last round rather than just a plain border.
