Remember the big fire of Maquoketa? It happened January 19, 2008.
Yesterday was April 27, 2010. Do the math. That’s 2 YEARS, 3 MONTHS, and 8 days ago! For 2 years, 3 months, and 8 days, THIS is what we have looked at in downtown Maquoketa. Very disheartening. We basically have no downtown business now, then to look at this… Today, the cleanup began. PRAISE THE LORD! Click on photos to enlarge. More pictures later, or if you want, click THIS LINK, and read the updates for yourself!
Miracles DO happen. I just never thought I’d see it in MY lifetime.
Be blessed, Michelle
I know you're thrilled to see this! Someday maybe it will be something beautiful to see. blessings, marlene
ReplyDeleteOh, I bet you are glad to see changes come about...the old destroyed buildings would be so depressing to drive by. What kind of stores are going in the rebuilding?
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised the city would allow the owner of the building to leave it that long .Do they know what if anything will be built in the spot .
ReplyDeleteThe destruction that fire leaves is just awful. I can't believe the cleanup took that long! Unfortunately, sometimes the red tape keeps things from moving along sooner.
ReplyDeleteOh I can't wait to see if finished. I know you are so happy.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they are finally starting the regeneration. It's soul destroying to drive by derelict buildings in your town. We have quite afew and every year the council say that next year they'll start to do something with them. It never happens though.
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs Gina xxx
