Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!

Hmmmm…what do you think these people are looking at?

one

Remember the fire of 2008, and how we had to look at THIS for well over 2 years?

The cleanup was beginning in the following photo, and it took about two weeks…

…to get it all cleaned up and filled in, leaving the old hardware store, built in the late 1800’s. The demolition of the hardware store was a separate project and not expected to come down until late summer, but when they discovered there was very little, or next to no asbestos danger in the rubble, the building came down a few weeks after the  other cleanup project was complete.

It only took a day or two…..three four rubble

…and today, Friday, June 11, 2010, it looks like this! The city, I believe is planning on putting grass seed down (or sod, I don’t know) to make it green space for now.  What an improvement!   Let’s compare.  THIS?done 1

or this?

My vote is THIS!

I think the city of Maquoketa is a much happier place now. I know I’m happier!

Be blessed!

  3. I agree with you; I do like the hard work done by all and the change that happened; good that they are planning to put down grass sod too!

  4. I vote for the grass too! Add some flowers and a couple of benches...make it into a mini park!

  5. Yes! Things are beginning to really take shape, and that will probably be a boon to your town. Isn't it funny how good things can come from difficulties?
