Clearing Snow After the Blizzard

This morning, at 4:45, Louie drove around the block to see if he could get us out and down to work. He had no problems. Work was cancelled for us, but at 7 am, when Louie tried to go to work himself, it was a whole different story. He had a hard time getting out of the end of the driveway, then he was stuck in the street at the end of the driveway. Once he got himself out there, he got stuck several more times before he finally got to the main road. He drove out Main Street and out the highway, but when he got to where he was to turn into work, the entrance was blocked, the lot was fully drifted, and snow was up against the building halfway up the service bay doors. He called me, then came home, but not before he called everyone and told them to stay put. He worked about 3 hours on the driveway to get it cleared. He was just about done with the rough clean when the city plow came past, and left a wall of snow ‘Louie chest high’. He came in for a break for about an hour then went back out to finish the job.

While Louie was cleaning our driveway, our neighbor Joe helped Louie  clean the end of the driveway.

Louie then helped our neighbor Paul, across the street clean snow up against his garage when the tractor couldn’t get close enough to….

…and then Louie helped our neighbor Amy.  He also saved a ‘little life’. He said when he went back out to work on the wall of snow at the end of the driveway, he saw something flopping in the snow. He thought it was a leaf. He said he was not sure why he reached for the leaf to free it before he continued to plow, but he did. As he brushed the snow away to free the ‘leaf’, the ‘leaf’ shot out of the snow, scaring him, and flew away. It wasn’t a leaf. Instead, it was a bird. He thinks that when the city truck came by, the bird was down on the ground, and the snowplow caught it, throwing it in the snow. Louie came in the house for an hour before he went back out, so the bird was trapped in the snow for an hour. I think the bird must have been praying very hard to be rescued, because God answered his prayers and he flew to safety. That really touched Louie’s heart. He told me about how you can ‘find God’ just about everywhere, and today was no exception.

Sure looks a lot different, doesn’t it?

Have a great rest of the week, and I hope the rest of you who got snow, are now plowed out.

Be blessed, and stay warm!

  1. What a story about the bird...Louie earned a jewel in his heavenly crown for the rescue....then more jewels for helping the neighbors.

  7. Louie is a good neighbor and the story about that little bird was so touching. It reminds me of us when we have lost our way just flapping our wings and that big hand comes down and picks us up. I hope you stay safe and warm. It looks so cold there.

  8. I have no idea what happened, but in the last hour over 200 RSS feeds from the blogs I read, all came thorough at once. 3 or 4 days worth! Yikes! I feel like my inbox had a blizzard. =)
