I’ve been stalking Greg’s Alerts again…..
We needed to leave our house at 6am and drive 2 hours to get to the seller’s house to pick this baby up this morning, before they left to go to Chicago to see a Cubs-Cardinals game. I saved this machine from the scrap heap. She had it in her garage. One of her tenants left it, and for 6 months, she has had it on Craig’s List (Greg’s Alerts). She said her husband told her to just throw it out, but she said she would list it one more time. I’m glad she did. It was a bit of mess, however, as mice had been bringing corn into the garage and packing it in the bottom of the sewing machine. We needed to vacuum it out good before it came into the house! (I also sprayed the case for bugs, just in case!)
This machine is a straight stitch only machine, and the two buttons are for the feed dogs. One is to drop them, and the other one is to bring them back up. The number stamped on the machine body on the underside is JA-12. Not sure what that means, or what year it was manufactured, but I do know it is a Japanese clone machine and the Modern Home is a ‘badge’ name of who sold the machine. Not sure what the 301 De Luxe means. This is the first machine I have had that when I removed the end plate, that the tension assembly came with it. Very cool!I needed to remove the old belt and put on a new one. I didn’t have to mess with the tension much, and she sews a beautiful stitch.
We spent the day with my brother and SIL. We picked them up on the way to get the sewing machine. Today was her birthday. We ate breakfast in Kalona, lunch in Iowa City, and supper in Lisbon. We went junkin’ in Iowa City, Coralville and Cedar Rapids, and I brought home 3 sewing machines (including this one). Two came from Goodwill. You’ll probably get to see the blue one in a day or two. It’s PURDY! The third machine was bought because I wanted the case it was in, because it was very nice. Not sure if the machine is good or not. I’ll check it in a day or two. I sure had fun though!
What did you do today?
Michelle
More orphans found a new place to call home...you are such a sweet lady. Thought of you Friday as I rummaged through a garage at an estate sale...saw an old, old machine. Is there any particular kind, color, etc you are interested in? I do come across machines from time to time.
