Why I Love Thrifting * Reason #237

Louie and I went to the Quad Cities today, with buying groceries, and going to Sam’s top on the priority list…that is, after we went to a few thrift stores. Rolling on the floor laughing We discussed which ones we would choose if we could only go to a couple, then Louie decided we would go to both Goodwills, the DAV American Veteran’s store, and the Salvation Army ‘AS IS’ store, all on the Iowa side of the river.

Can you guess which store I found this in? I couldn’t believe it. It was in the Salvation Army ‘As Is’ store.

I think it is a lingerie chest made for a bedroom. It’s almost as tall as I am. (Please disregard furnace ductwork behind the top of it. It is not part of the decorative accessorizing, just part of using utility space. Winking smile It can’t be helped.)

It was made by Bassett. The drawers do NOT come out.

We hauled it to the basement via ‘around the house and in the back door’, and into my Machine Quilting Room. I do believe those little drawers will come in handy for thread and sewing/quilting organization. It really is too pretty to be in a basement, but I didn’t have room in our bedroom, and it will be a big help down here.

We brought home three more sewing machines for The Sewing Machine Project. I think two machines will work with just a little work, and it’s ‘a maybe’ on the third one. I couldn’t see inside it. The motor works, but no needle bar action. It’s either ‘stuck’ or the belt is off, or maybe it’s worse, but for what we paid, there will be lots of spare parts if I need to scrap it. Foot controls are always good to have, as it seems we are always looking for one. I think I have 5 or 6 machines to work on now. I guess I better get fixin’!

We stocked up on canned goods and fresh and frozen meat for the freezer from Save-A-Lot, and we got some ‘necessaries’ from Sam’s. It sure didn’t take long to spend $300+. It will be nice to have the freezer and pantry stocked again though.

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

  5. What a beautiful chest, and perfect for a sewing room! We go home on Friday and my first task will be a big run to Sam's. My second will be to buy a new freezer. We have one but it's old and I'm concerned about it. I'm going to keep it but I want to stock up particularly on meat because this drought likely means a huge rise in prices later. blessings, marlene
