Today was our February quilting day, and Patty got the lucky draw, so she got to choose which block we would make today. We did not make all these blocks today, as Patty had already had some made up, but these are the blocks that she chose and we all sewed. The block is called Midnight Glow, and the tutorial can be found at Freemotion By The River.
I love the colors Patty chose. She is going to change the pattern a bit though, and put sashing in-between the blocks. I think it will look very pretty! I just love that deep dark brown fabric!
Patty chose batiks for her FQ fabric choice, so here are the beautiful fabrics that we got to indulge in today.
I didn’t sew quilt blocks today. Instead, I made a couple more thread catcher/pincushion bags. This one is for my friend Judy.
This one is for my friend Margaret J. I also made her a litter bag for her car. I sewed a little button below the tab and snapped a button cover over it for ‘bling’. If you would like to see how to make the litter bags, click here. The thread catchers are constructed much the same, although I don’t have a pattern written up for them. I just ‘wing it’.
Last weekend, I made a couple bags for my friend Ronelle’s two daughters who are learning to sew.
My friend Renea made herself a new bag today too.
It was another wonderful, laughter filled day spent with cherished friends. I feel so blessed to have these ladies in my life. I just wish we could get together more than once a month.
Very pretty blocks, love those fabrics. I also love your thread catchers. What do you use for weight?

Those are really nice bags. I want to make one because it would be a big help. I have a question...do you put something in the pin cushion to make it heavier, or will it just stay in place? THanks!
ReplyDeleteLove your thread catchers!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have a lot of fun. I like the pincushion/thread catchers, but I really like your sewing machines. The red eye is gorgeous! I have a few of the older Singers - a couple of 99's (well, maybe more than a couple), an electric 66 and a treadle 66 and more we won't talk about. :) I love them all. Nice to find a kindred spirit!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a pocket in a thread catcher before. Great place for your scissors.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt blocks are beautiful and I made a quilt with those beautiful batiks too! Glad you enjoyed the Midnight Glow block! Love the thread catcher/pincushion bags!
