Next Saturday at quilting, we are going to make Market Bags for ourselves for our monthly project. I decided to make mine tonight to make sure I remembered how to do it, and I wanted to try making it with double sided quilted fabric that I found while thrifting awhile back. The dark pocket on the front of the bag is what the back side of the quilted fabric looks like.
Here is the back side of the bag.
I decided that I still wanted to line it. I wanted it to have a nice finished interior. I also added magnetic snaps, but I thought they needed to be secured down better than just on the lining fabric, so I sewed around the snap on both sides through all the layers. It probably wasn’t the best plan, but it was all I had. I’m still pretty new to sewing things other than quilts, so I know I have a lot to learn.
I also decided to made the bottom a little boxier, so I covered a 4” x 12” piece of cardboard with fabric and it fits perfectly.
I like it!
Now if I could just get my sewing area to clean itself up……………….
You did a terrific job on your bag and I love the snap idea.
ReplyDeleteI've often stiffened bag bottoms with a piece of plastic needlepoint canvas.
ReplyDeletegreat job...I have never put in a magnetic fastener...was it difficult?
ReplyDeleteThis is something I want to do soooo bad!
ReplyDeleteYour bag turned out really nice. The boxy bottom is a great idea.
