Louie and I have been hunting for a table that would transform into a nice sewing table for my friend Renea. We found one yesterday that we thought would work perfect, and Renea agreed. We have the same sewing machines, so Louie could use my machine to make a perfect fit. He is getting really good at dropping machines into tables, as he has done two for me (one for my Janome and one for my Juki), and three for friends of mine who all have Janome 6600’s.
We found a very heavy table with two drawers. I guess I would call this a writing desk. ????
The machine was a little wider than the inside of the drawer, so Louie had to do some drilling, chiseling, and chipping to make it wide enough, cutting into the inside drawer supports, but not damaging them.
We used one of the drawers for the support of the machine. Like I said, the drawer was just a little too narrow, so Louie removed sections of the sides. We did have to shim it a little, using particle board.
Since Ace Hardware ‘didn’t have anything’ like Louie wanted to surround the opening he cut for Renea’s cords to come up though from underneath, he looked anyway, and found something in the electrical department. Hmmm…looks like it was made just for that purpose! I guess they DID have something, they just didn’t know it.
He found a brass fitting and ‘modified’ it to surround the hole he drilled for the ‘knee lift’ bar to slip through, and managed to drill through the front of the drawer without having to modify the drawer pull.
I think it turned out beautifully, and I know Renea will love it!
She even has one whole drawer to store her sewing accessories in.
We delivered it this evening, and here is her machine in it’s new table, all ready to go!
Enjoy Renea! It was a lot of fun getting this ready for you. I think I was more excited than you about finding the table and getting this set up for you, as I know how much I love my table…and I loved it even more when Louie added a drawer to it!
Be blessed, and thank you for allowing me to show you another table transformation.
Have a wonderful week!
Michelle

ReplyDeleteI saw your comment on my blog so of course my nosy self came over here to check you out :) I LOVE that table transformation. I wish mine would do that, but I'm on an old table from my husband's family so I know that ain't happenin...he'd flip. It looks so much more comfortable...no more stiff shoulders from reaching up.
