Christmas Quilts for the Park View Lutheran Quilters

Louie and I have been busy lately! The last time I visited the quilting ladies at the Lutheran Church in Park View, I came home with six kits to sew at my leisure. I started working on them, and then Shirley, the leader told me that they had a request for 30 quilts for a nursing home for Christmas, so I kicked it in high gear and requested help from my own personal elf. He does a fabulous job at sewing, but please don’t tell anyone. He loved helping, but says he doesn’t want the word to get out, because well, he still thinks sewing is just for girls, but he loves helping people and he loves the Lord, so happily, he sewed along with me. I did have to make a few sacrifices, like let him watch a few ball games, but I wasn’t paying attention anyway, so it wasn’t that big of a sacrifice. We also had to have a little chocolate. Winking smile

I actually had these first two quilts finished before I asked him to help.

Over one weekend, between the two of us, we sewed four quilt tops. He held all four up for us. I grouped the photos together so you can see the finished quilts as well. They were NOT quilted and bound that weekend. I finished them up a couple weeks later, after a lot of hand stitching of the binding and watching Netflix.

They are ready to be delivered back to the quilting girls and then distributed for Christmas. It was such a blessing to be able to help.

  1. Loved seeing you kick into high gear. The people will so much love the quilts. I am always in awe of how pieces of fabric can be made into a tool of comfort. Kind of how God can use the pieces of our lives if we let Him stitch them together!

  2. Tell Louie that my father is the one who taught me how to work a sewing machine, and he is the one who made the seat covers for the 1963 VW Bug that we converted to a truck, way back in the early 70's. His mother taught him how to use a machine, and how to follow a pattern. My youngest son made a quilt at age 12, and, if he ever gets any free time (full time work and college classes right now) he wants to make another one. He did stitch a ren-fair top, all by hand a few years ago. Lots of guys sew.

  4. Love the plaid -- you may not give two hoots, but plaid is extremely fashionable in California. It's a winter thing, I guess. I predict that you and Lou will have a very Happy and Merry Christmas.
